flickr pro account contest
I hate my favicon. I hate my gravatar. Hate ’em. I’ve tried four or five times to design something new to use as my favicon or gravatar and each time it ends up looking very SimpleBitsian.
Maybe I’m just blocked. Maybe I’m just working too hard on other stuff. Maybe I’m just looking for some inspiration from outside.
Either way, if you can help me get out of this funk and get through my favicon/gravatar doldrums, the pro account is yours. I’m sure someone can come up with something in less than 20 minutes that will do the trick – post your ideas here, or link to them on your own site and whichever one I choose gets the account. Basically I want something that fits with the theme/name of the site (box of chocolates) and is recognizable.
I fully acknowledge that a flickr pro account may not be much in return for this, and I am aware that the few people that read this blog might already have pro accounts. However, if you don’t already have a pro account, and you want one, then why not give it a shot?

I already have a Flickr Pro account, but here’s a question: does it have to reflect the name of the domain?
I donno, call me crazy but I got visions of a guy with a pint glass attached to his chin.

Hi, I just found your website through the article about the browser elitism.
I thought i spent 20 minutes as you said to create some icons for favicon and gravatar.
View it here
and let me know.

Why not jsut use a photo of yourself?
I mean.. its a gravatar of you, not just your site…

D, I couldn’t create a graphic to save my life…but the images that came to mind are:
1) A feather…perhaps in chocolate brown.
2) An obvious piece of chocolate…perhaps something that looks like a chocolate chip or a hershey’s kiss…with something Derek’y’ on the slip of paper…
3) Something techie half dipped in chocolate…like a mouse. Ewww…nevermind…that is gross…chocolate covered mouse…yuk!
4) A chocolate covered strawberry or cherry (or something else you like)
5) A hershey candy bar style wrapper…with something cute on the label.
6) A animated gif of you making fog magically coming out of your lungs! Such a great bar trick (and after the third time it plays..you pass out on the page).
Okay…I’ll stop now…

Like Tripeak asked, what is the deadline? I don’t want to begin working on something and end up unable to finish before the deadline. That would obviously be a waste of my time, and my time is very precious to me.

Tripeak/Jonathan: I’m going to arbitrarily set 11:59:59 pm on Sunday May 8th, 2005 as the deadline. That gives anyone who is interested about another 10 days or so to put something together. Thanks, and looking forward to seeing what you (and others) come up with!

Here’s an entry for you. Chocolate hearts, since I think your site has heart, but after your existing theme & color scheme. Not terribly original, but okay for 15 minutes worth of effort.

Where should we send the entries (email) ?
I believe I’ve sent mine to your @furtherahead account, can you please let me know if you received it?
Cheers :)

oops! Looks like I got the time wrong… Oh, well. I’m in Greece… (and I’m an idiot) does that count?

No kidding! ;) I didn’t even enter one and I’m aching to know the results! What have you got for us Derek?

Well, I’ve got a few things planned, actually. I haven’t made my final decision, but I have decided that I’ll be doing at least a partial redesign during the next two weeks.
The one that I choose will be integrated into the new/tweaked design, but hopefully I’ll announce the winner before then…
Comment by Andrew Krespanis — May 16 2005 @ 4:37 pm
Oh damn. Had I known that, I wouldn’t have based my entry on your current design!

…maybe the name of your site makes it difficult to come up with anything abstract…
