A Different Web Accessibility Primer

November 24, 2004

I’m pleased to announce that I’ve just had my first article published over at DMXZone.com, entitled “A Different Web Accessibility Primer”. Other members of the authoring team at DMXZone include web professionals such as Molly Holzschlag, Rachel Andrew and Rudy Limeback (among others).

I’ve posted a sample of the web accessibility primer over at WATS.ca so that you can get an idea what the article is about. Just so you are aware: DMXZone.com is a subscription based site – articles are very reasonably priced, and they do have bulk and yearly subscriptions available.

Many thanks to Ian Blackham of DMXZone for his editing suggestions and for helping to co-ordinate the publication and production of this article.

Growing Up With Web Standards

If you aren’t aware, S5 provides a framework for creating well-structured and accessible presentation materials. We’ve been using Opera Show for our accessibility presentations at WATS.ca for the past year or so, but I was immediately attracted to S5 because of its cross-browser compatibility.

I decided to try S5 for a presentation I was giving last night, and I wanted a particular graphic to render incrementally. Here’s how I did it using the incremental display from the first alpha release to incorporate incremental rendering: S51.1a3.

The Human Factor

November 15, 2004

I’m currently reading a book by Kim Vicente called “The Human Factor” that a colleague of mine (an ergonomist) recommended to me.

I’ll post a more thorough review of it later, but I wanted to share some nuggets I found In the first chapter. This passage really resonated with the world of the web and what we, as web professionals, do:

Disclosure and Site Critiques

November 2, 2004

I’m sitting on the fence on a small decision I need to make and I want to ask your collective input and thoughts. There are times you just need an outside perspective, and now is a time where I could use yours.
